LA Metro Web and PDF Accessibility

The Los Angeles Metropolitan Authority (MTA) hired SymSoft to make its website more accessible to users with disabilities, as part of the larger initiative to make Metro’s services and infrastructure accessible to the visually impaired. The Website Accessibility Project involved updating the website content following the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), Priority 1 and Priority 2 checkpoints. The scope of the project included making the schedule, route and fare information accessible, along with the trip planner and customer comment form.

SymSoft reviewed, analyzed and updated the MTA website and pdf files to meet the accessibility standards. SymSoft also provided accessible templates for the MTA team to implement the Django (a python based framework) CMS and the Trip Planner application. To maintain the website accessibility on an ongoing basis, we provided accessibility guidelines and training for the MTA staff for improved content creation and web publishing processes that integrate the accessibility verification and testing.
