Web Content Management

The Web Content Management Systems (WCMS) make it easy for business users to create, review, manage, and archive web content. However, achieving this promise of a Web Content Management System involves much more than just installing the Web Content Management System. We begin with understanding our client’s enterprise web strategy and specific content management needs. We help our clients with selection of right technology solution, provide governance and change management strategies, implement the WCMS product and train the users for effective management of the web content.

We have successfully implemented following Content Management Systems along with the Web 2.0 features including Blogs, Forums, and Wikis. Having worked with variety of CMS, we can compare strengths and weaknesses of these systems:

  • OpenText - Enterprise Web Content Management
  • Alfresco - Open Source Enterprise Content Management
  • Microsoft Sharepoint - Online Collaboration and Content Management
  • Drupal - Focus on Online Communities, Web 2.0 Features
  • Plone - Strong User/ Role Management, Workflow Management, Web 2.0 Features
  • Joomla - Another PHP-based CMS, Web 2.0 Features
  • DotNetNuke - Open Source CMS on Microsoft Platform

Implementing a WCMS is a business solution and impacts how the organizations manage and present their web content. It empowers the business users to publish the web content through distributed authorship. We work with our clients to understand their current web publishing process and design new business process to be used with the WCMS. We implement security policies to make sure that only authorized personnel can update the web content and proper approval process is followed before the content is published on the website. People change management is a critical factor in WCMS implementations, along with defining the Web Governance policies. We work with our clients to understand their specific change management needs and provide consulting in that area.

Beyond the design, information architecture, and implementation of the WCMS, we help with content migration from the static HTML or from an existing CMS into the new system. As appropriate, SymSoft uses automated tool-based migration of content to cut down conversion efforts, reducing costs and speeding up how quickly our clients can go live.
